As we move into the last few months of 2017, it is time to turn our attention toward the upcoming year and what it holds for the fitness industry. Thanks to the recently released “Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends for 2018: The CREP Edition” published in the November/December issue of ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, we now have an in-depth projection of what the top trends will be in the coming year. At this point it should come as no surprise, but the top trend for 2018 is High Intensity Interval Training.

HIIT has been a hot topic in 2017 but according to ACSM, the hype is justified. Walter R. Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM, president of ACSM explains, “High intensity interval training has been a consistently high-ranking trend on the forecast in recent years, appearing in the top three since 2014.” As we mentioned in a previous blog about the history of Nautilus, HIIT is not a new trend, it has been around for a very long time under a variety of names. However, with the growth of HIIT-style competitions, HIIT programs in fitness facilities and HIIT focused boutiques, more people are being exposed to the exercise methodology. Once you are exposed to HIIT you are bound to uncover the vast laundry list of scientifically proven benefits.

According to the report, “HIIT was number 1 in the survey for 2014,” however many participants warned that they “were concerned with a potentially high injury rate.” While this has been a reoccurring concern, Thompson added “Research shows that with proper precautions, like working with a certified personal trainer, HIIT can be a safe, effective and fun way to exercise.”

At Core Health & Fitness we believe strongly in the value of education, which is why we have been committed to providing high quality fitness education through programming, training camps and certification courses taught by our team of world class Master Trainers. This year we expanded our education offerings to include StairMaster HIIT programming, which includes the ability for trainers to be HIIT certified by a Master Trainer.

The HIIT programming covers everything from structuring a safe and effective HIIT class to marketing and revenue generation. We even provide a complete solutions package to promote your class and leverage StairMaster equipment.

Learn more about how you can get a head start on next year and tap into the top projected trend for 2018.
