John Guelzow retires, ending 40+ year career in the fitness industry.
Vancouver, WA October 17, 2019— It would be hard pressed to find another individual within the fitness industry who has made a larger impact than John Guelzow, Director of National Accounts for Core Health & Fitness. It is bittersweet to announce that as of October 1st, 2019, John Guelzow has retired from an industry he has meant so much to. John’s career has spanned over 40 years, 100% devoted to the market that meant so much to him growing up—the YMCA. John’s primary focus was to develop deep and meaningful relationships with the YMCA, and he exceeded every expectation.
“The YMCA’s are very important to me because they are family. Anywhere you go in the country you are greeted with a friendly hello and when you leave someone tells you to have a great rest of your day. The Y is a safe haven and a place where you can be yourself,” John Guelzow.
“If you asked every customer that John came in contact with to use one word that describes him the best…the overwhelming word that comes up is integrity,” stated Terry Woods, Vice President of North America Sales. “This is because his whole career, John followed one simple principle—he did what he said he was going to do and followed through, every time.”
John is the perfect representation of integrity and has inspired those around him to exemplify this same principal. So much so, that earlier this month Core Health & Fitness unveiled, “The John Guelzow Integrity Award,” which will be awarded to the employee who has demonstrated a work ethic filled with integrity throughout the previous year. Rightfully so, John was named as the very first recipient of this award.
Finding a successor to John was no easy task, but Core Health & Fitness has named Heath Debish as the next Director of National Accounts. Heath also has responsibility with Anytime Fitness, Ruckus Cycle and other strategic accounts in North America.
“Heath Debish and I have worked together for over 20 years,” said John Guelzow. “We have worked very closely in the YMCA market in the last 4 years and he understands their culture, mission and their needs. I feel confident handing this off to Heath because he cares, and I know not one YMCA will be left without someone to assist them.”
